Course Description

This course builds upon the evaluation and mechanisms of cardiac diseases covered in CVS-102 Adult Cardiac Sonography II. It delves into advanced topics such as congenital heart diseases, stress echocardiography, enhanced studies, three-dimensional echocardiography, heart transplants, and cardiac trauma. Students will employ critical thinking skills to integrate patient history, clinical data, advanced echocardiographic findings, and related imaging results to develop differential diagnoses and compile comprehensive technical reports.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

• Discuss congenital heart diseases including the clinical presentation, differential diagnosis, complications, related imaging examinations and treatments for each.

·        Explain the sonographic techniques, measurements, quantitative principles and Doppler patterns for congenital heart diseases seen in adult cardiac sonography.

·        Discus the indication, limitations, and technical procedures for the below echocardiography related studies:

o   Stress echocardiography-exercise

o   Stress echocardiography- pharmacology

o   Transesophageal echocardiogram

o   Enhanced studies (bubble study and contrast)

o   Invasive and intraoperative testing and procedures

o   Three-dimensional echocardiography

o   Stain echocardiography

o   Speckle tracing

·        Explain echocardiography related imaging, laboratory and functional testing and modifications of echocardiography protocols based on findings.

• Discuss cardiac trauma, transplants and intracardiac devices including the clinical presentation, differential diagnosis, complications, related imaging examinations and treatments for each.

·        Explain the sonographic techniques, measurements, quantitative principles and Doppler patterns for trauma, transplants and intracardiac devises seen in the adult cardiac sonography examination
